Why a single-phase starter?
Phase feeding with multiple products offers producers the best opportunity to provide pigs with the right nutrients for each stage of growth. Often, however, nurseries contain pigs from multiple weaning dates, and this range of ages and weights can make managing the feed budget more challenging and can lead to the underfeeding of smaller, lighter pigs.
Its efficiency of feed delivery and manufacturing make POWERSTART Solo attractive to producers who have multi-fill rooms or nurseries. Feeding a single-phase nursery feed like POWERSTART Solo can make it easier to manage feed budgets and the number of days on medication — especially when using a VFD medication.
Do I need to feed a prestarter to smaller pigs?
We recommend Powerstart Launch for any pigs weighing less than 13 pounds. For smaller pigs (i.e., weighing less than 10 pounds), First Course would be beneficial. Overall, we recommend managing the lightest pigs in the group the same as you would in a multi-phase nursery program.
