Homestead Wildlife feed bag image

Homestead® Deer Feeds have each been formulated for a different type of deer.  The 14% Wild Deer product has high levels of flavor and aroma enhancers (but low salt) to entice deer to the backyard for your visual enjoyment.  The 17% Deer product is highly fortified with amino acids, vitamins and minerals for maximum growth of muscle and antlers for commercial/captive deer operations.

About the Product

14% Wild Deer Pellets
Formulated to help supplement forages found in the wild.  This feed has high levels of aromatic ingredients to get the deer to the feed and flavor enhancers to keep the deer coming back.  Designed for the people who enjoy watching deer come to the edge of the yard.

17% Deer Pellets
Designed for captive deer raised commercially for antler growth.   These deer need to grow larger frames (but not fat) for large body systems to supply the high amounts of nutrients needed for today’s antler sizes.  When the animal is mature, the feed has optimal levels of amino acids, macro and trace minerals and vitamins to take advantage of their genetic antler growth potential.

Quality Proteins and Amino Acids
Ingredients are selected for high digestibility and amino acid balance.  Synthetic amino acids are also offered to make sure there are no deficiencies for optimal hair, muscle and antler growth in these animals.

Fiber Sources
Carefully chosen sources of fiber (alfalfa meal, soy hulls, beet pulp) have been added to complement  the forage program the animal may be offered or can find.

Vitamins and Minerals
During both muscle and antler growth, deer have very demanding vitamin and mineral requirements which are addressed by each respective product.  Calcium, available phosphorus, selenium, copper, as well as biotin, choline, niacin and other vitamins and minerals, are carefully balanced for maximum performance.

Contains Chelated Minerals
Helps to increase mineral utilization.

Contains Yeast
Research has shown that adding yeast can help increase the fiber digestion of forages.

Feeding Directions

Homestead 14% Wild Deer Pellets are designed to be fed free choice for all stages of a wild deer’s life.   A roughage in the form of pasture or hay must be supplied.  No other source of salt should be offered.

Homestead 17% Deer Pellets are designed to be fed free choice for all stages of a commercial/captive deer’s life.  A hay or pasture source must be offered.  A 2:1 mineral may also be offered free choice if the forage is grass based.

Feeding Tips

  • Provide plenty of fresh clean water at all times.
  • Never feed any feedstuffs that are moldy, musty or suspect in any way.
  • For best results, deer  should be allowed enough space to exercise freely and housed in a draft-free environment.
  • As antlers start to grow in the spring, they start as a flexible cartilage like that found in the nose. This cartilage is covered in a blood-rich tissue called velvet. Midseason, the antlers start to become calcified and by the beginning of fall are completely hard.  Each of these phases may require evaluation of the feeding rations (forage and grain) in order to produce the maximum size and strength for the antlers.
  • Antlers are shed each year whereas horns are permanent and made of a material similar to fingernails.

These products have been formulated specifically for deer and are not intended for other species.
