Calf to Cow Replacement Heifer Program

Multi-purpose—Calf and Heifer Concentrates are 34% protein, all natural supplements formulated for fast growing calves and heifers. Calf and Heifer Concentrates, when mixed with home-grown grains, will provide the needed nutrients for growth.

Larger Heifers—Heifer Developer Concentrates are 40% protein concentrates with NPN. Heifer Developer Concentrates are recommended for making grain mixes for growing and developing heifers.

Foundation® Heifer Premixes are high quality premixes for dairy young stock. It is formulated for replacement heifer rations where vitamin and trace mineral requirements are not met by other supplements or minerals. 

About the Product

Flexible

  • Calf and Heifer Concentrates can be used to make 18%, 16% and 14% crude protein grain mixes to be fed to heifers during the first 12 months.
  • Heifer Developer Concentrates can be used to make 16%, 14% and 12% crude protein grain mixes to be fed to heifers from approximately six months of age to two months pre-calving.
  • FOUNDATION® Heifer Premixes can be fed free-choice, top dressed, or incorporated into grain mixes to provide supplemental minerals and vitamins.


Choice of Additives


Calf to Cow Replacement Heifer Concentrates and Premixes are available with feed additives at FDA-approved levels. Proper use of feed additives can increase weight gain and feed utilization. Refer to product tag for specific claims.

For calf mixes, whole or rolled grains versus ground grain is preferred by the calf. For grower mixes, forage quality and amount should be used to determine protein level, mineral and vitamin supplementation to be fed.

Grain Mix feeding rate using Heifer Developer Conc. B285 (285 g/ton)

For increased rate of weight gain: Feeding each mix at their corresponding feeding rates will supply 60-200 milligrams of Lasalocid per head per day.

For control of coccidiosis: Feeding each mix at their corresponding feeding rates will supply 1 milligram Lasalocid per 2.2 pounds of body weight. Feed continuously up to 800 pounds body weight. 

Forage quality and amount should be used to determine protein level, mineral and vitamin supplementation, and amount of mix to be fed.

FOUNDATION Heifer Premix

Offer free-choice in mineral feeders or force feed.  Consumption should be 2.0 to 4.0 ounces per head daily. When feeding FOUNDATION Heifer Premix B1440 free-choice, locate mineral feeders near water or other high traffic areas to ensure proper consumption.

Mix Foundation® Heifer Premix MON1600 at the rate of 500 pounds per ton with 1500 pounds of grain to make a grain mix containing 400 grams per ton of Monensin. Feed this grain mix at the rate of 1 lb. per head per day to provide not less than 200 milligrams of Monensin per head per day. The drug must be contained in a minimum of 1 lb of feed. During the first five days of feeding, cattle should receive no more than 100 milligrams of Monensin in not less than 1 lb of feed. A clean, fresh source of drinking water is also necessary.

Caution

These products, which contain added copper, must not be fed to sheep or related species that have a low tolerance level to copper.
